Because it's a special month...

Every time it's Ramadhan, a different kind of sensation buzzes through me - of excitement and of bliss... When I was young, the countdown to the moment of the big gulp was one looooong wait! I guess Dato' Dr Lat's sketches of little Mamat's fasting days all aptly describe a young one's experience in the holy month.

One practice I try to keep up with is the reading of the whole Quran in the whole month. In theory, it works like this: one chapter a day x 30 days = 30 chapters = the whole Book. However, in reality, a WOMAN would find this a problem because of the approximately 7 days of menses we get, prohibiting us to fast, pray or read the Quran.

Ergo, how does one make it happen? Well, I cheat a little... HeHe. I usually start about a week earlier to catch up with the time! I know, the calculation doesn't equate as I've not really done it during the holy month. Still, that's about the only way I can achieve it. Err, reading more is a little bit tough, what more if the Little Red Flag goes up more that it's supposed to? Even a chapter takes about 40 minutes for me. At times, I do it in one go; at others, it must be broken into 2 or 3 chunks. On good days, I manage to read almost two chapters, but never more than that...

So, this Ramadhan, I aim to do it the way it is supposed to: the whole Quran during the whole month (minus some days...). I start tonight as we start the Tarawih prayers tonight too.

To all Muslims out there, the best of Ramadhan is out there for us. Ramadhan Mubarak!

Pause to reflect: care to share your strategy??

mki,
ditto... may we gain more than we lose!

bluewonder,
yes,I'll never forget that incident but I can't recall the dish... take care!

anon @ Puyi (wonder what this stands for),
I think that's a great idea! My husband also often plays over some selected surah - in hope that it'll help him with some health problems he has. Yelah, kot kita baca kan tak perfect... Keep up the good work!

kak elle,
yes, while we're still able, we should make the most of the wonders of the fasting month. ps: masak apa hari ni?

activ8ions,
InsyaAllah... sometimes we gotta be careful though; keeping the intentions pure can be tough. Thanx for dropping by.

restless,
good suggestion but sometimes we rush through our daily activities that selfishly, we can't make time for some Quran reading.

kc,
same to you dear.

I have to drive about 45 mins to 1 hr to work ( tu dah masuk jam kat traffic lights near Abg Idin's school). Pergi balik, 2 hours in hand. So I figure, some of the shorter & memorized juzuk can be recited while driving. Put on hold dulu lah Hits.fm, ERA, CD Linkin Park, hehehe.... Tried this before, it worked. But I will finish the longer ones at home - sbb x hafal.

Tapi .... ni dah masuk 4 days, Al Baqarah pun tak habih lagi, bila nak start the shorter ones nih? hahah...alahai.
