Genies

When we watch cartoons, images of genies from lamps or bottles are very common. Remember Aladdin?
And, I grew up thinking that genies were fictional - thanks to the media! Yet today, my understanding of genies is different. I believe in Allah's creations - humans, animals, devils, angels (malaikat) and genies. They all exist but we must understand their significance. Genies are very much like humans. They marry, they have offsprings and they have religion. The only complication is: they share the same world as us yet we can't see them. So, what do you do when you see the unseen?
I have never been a brave person. Since young, I have always been afraid of 'ghosts' and spirits. Being physically alone is scary but until today, I have never ever experienced any sightings. It can be rather funny because people around me have seen, heard and felt the presence of 'something'.

Last night, before falling asleep, Mr. D suddenly told me to recite some quranic verses. When I asked why, he told me to do it without questioning. I crept closer to him and slowly read the verses. I knew that he must have 'seen' something. The thing is, I don't think I dare ask him today.

Pause to reflect...

Hello D, reading your interesting post I must relate my unusual experience to you. Actually I posted it in my blog in December but have deleted it together with few others.
This happened in 1976. I was enroute to Penang from JB and it was already 11pm when I reached Bidor. Feeling tired I stopped for coffee. Then continued for Ipoh.
About few miles out of Bidor...I do not stop for hitchhikers unless daytime and I can see dia siapa. At nights? No way, not even if Saloma or Siput Sarawak. I was driving my Alfa Romeo and doing about 70 mph when in the darkness my lights picked up an old man in long white baju up to his ankles standing beside the road. I saw he lifted up his tongkat signalling me to stop. No way! I kept on, but somehow, till today cannot explain, my car just kept slowing down and stopping beside him. I knew I did not depress my brakes, funny!
It was dark but as I wind down the passenger side window, I could see he was a Malay old man with long white hair and white beard.
I enquired, "incik nak pergi mana"? He just pointed North with his tongkat. I opened the door and let him in.
In the car I tried to start a conversation with him but he just looked straight ahead and nodded to what I said but did not reply. He never looked at me but straight ahead. I kept a steady 60mph...then arriving the outskirts of Ipoh near the Sam Poh Tong temple about few hundred yards from the junction to the airport, he tapped my dashboard with his tongkat indicating I stop. The whole area was just lallang, bushes and wasteland, no houses. I thought maybe there is a kampong nearby.
I pulled to a stop, reached over and opened the door for him. He nodded at me, I wished him, "selamat malam incik" and then glanced at my rear view mirror to check road clear before driving off. It was dark, and funny? I don't see him anymore. I looked at both side mirrors...no! He was not anywhere to be seen. I turned around and looked, he had 'disappeared' as even though it was dark, he could not have 'disappeared' that fast!! less than a minute.
Then suddenly my car was filled with a strong scent of bunga chimpaka and Francipani, a beautiful flowery scent.
Oh boy! I then suspected or realised what had happened. It was midnight too as I slammed the pedal and bolted from there with screeching tires. I was shivering, feeling very cold all of a sudden.
I knew Ipoh very well and along Kampar road, seeing a coffee shop still opened, I came to a screeching stop and normally drink only ice coffee, ordered hot coffee, meanwhile trembling uncontrollably.
The shop towkay seeing I think my face puchat and my trembling enquired what was wrong also he and few customers were shocked at my rushing into the shop. I couldn't even light my cigarette as my hands shook badly. He lighted for me.
I had not locked my car and told him to open my car door and smell the interior. He and a few busybody customers went to my car, then quckly came back. He then took out a few jossticks and went near my car said some prayers. Then asked me what happened. I told him.
He then said I must have carried a Malay spirit, but a good one as I was not harmed.
Later deciding not to continue my journey, I put up at a nearby hotel for the night. I remember I slept with the lights on.
In Penang just out of curiousity went with a knowledgeble friend to a Temple where the monk there confirmed I had carried a Spirit, but a good one.
A week later on my way home to JB, I stopped at the exact spot I had dropped HIM...my tire marks still visible. It was empty land, just lallangs and red earth, nothing else.
Then at where I had picked HIM up, I stopped again. Just then a Malay man happened to be cycling by and I enquired about what was up on the hill? He told me there is a Chinese school and a graveyard. I enquired whether any Malay Keramats up there, he nodded.
D, that is one experience I will never forget.
Of course my friends on hearing the story teased about not asking for numbers. UL.
p/s had another unusual experience, this time in Tacoma, Seattle US, in a friend's house. Will leave this for another time. UL.

juwaidah,
will probably ask when we're not in the house!!

kd,
in most cases, I believe it's the genies around us. They won't kill u but they tease you. That's the scary part!

Uncle Lee,
*gulp* We often hear about highway incidents and also can't help thinking - doesn't anyone ever learn: never stop the car! But as you say, sometimes, when it actually takes place, you'd think you never hit the brakes yet your car slows down! Looking forward to your Part 2!!

Terus Helena demam the next day. masa tu baru 1 week masuk mrsm. pagi tu Helena terjatuh in a small hole masa nak sidai baju, it seems that hole tu macam keras. (2 yrs after that gardener found bones kat that area. Tulang org jepun kut...

Wooo...like you, I pun takuuuut! But now I dah besar, I know they too, are God's creations just like us. They too, are scared of us as we are of them. As all of us answer to God.

But still, that element of fear plays in our mind always.

Tumpang lalu...

Lee, your experience is spectacular. But then it's a good spirit kan! Yet, fearful juga. It has to do with fear of the unknown lah tu.
